What This Tool Does
Calculating the volume of a raised bed is more complex than it first appears, especially when converting between inches, feet, cubic feet, and cubic yards. Our tool abstracts this math away, allowing you to focus on the gardening itself. Whether you are building a custom 4x8 bed or a multi-bed urban farm, we provide the exact count of standard soil bags (1.0, 1.5, or 2.0 cu ft) needed to reach your target depth.
How It Works
We use high-precision volume formulas (Length × Width × Depth) and provide estimates for both standard garden soil and the intensive Mel's Mix recipe (1/3 Compost, 1/3 Peat/Coir, 1/3 Vermiculite). Our bag estimates utilize the Math.ceil() function, ensuring you are always rounded up to the nearest whole bag—because in gardening, having slightly too much soil is always better than running out midway through the job.
